You had beautiful skin as a baby. Your complexion was supple, line-free, and smooth – free of blemishes.
Then, life happens and you’re exposed to toxins, sun damage, and the effects of gravity. Although inevitable, these effects cause noticeable changes in your skin that often appear by your thirtieth birthday.
Do you look in the mirror only to see wrinkles, pigmentation, and dull skin? If yes, know you can do something about it. While you can’t turn back time, you can indulge in radiant skin by undergoing an intense-pulsed light (IPL) photo facial.
Southern Secrets Medical Spa and Clinic provides IPL photo facials to men and women in Conroe, Texas who want to get the best skin of their life. Here’s everything you need to know.
Address multiple skin concerns with one treatment
Sometimes washing your face turns into staring into your complexion for minutes wondering how it’s gotten this way. If you’re like most people, you probably have more than one skin concern you’d like to address.
IPL is one of the most powerful ways to reduce skin pigmentation for a dewy complexion. IPL sends targeted pulses of light deep into your skin that are then absorbed by melanin and blood vessels. Breaking down pigmentation, IPL transforms your skin from the inside out, encouraging cellular turnover.
IPL addresses skin concerns like:
- Freckles
- Age spots
- Sunspots
- Rosacea
- Melasma
- Sun damage
- Wrinkles
While IPL is most commonly performed on the face, the treatment can be safely used anywhere like the chest, shoulders, and neck.
What to expect
The first step of IPL is coming in for a consultation with Sarah Jameson, LVN to see if you’re a good candidate and can benefit from treatment. If you are, she instructs you to follow some simple steps before treatment:
- Avoid tanning for four weeks before
- Don’t wax or get a chemical peel for two weeks before
- Come free of perfume, makeup, and skin irritants
- Don’t take aspirin or blood-thinning medications
- Stop taking medications that make you sun-sensitive
On the day of treatment, Sarah answers any questions you have and starts by applying a gel to your skin. She gives you protective glasses and glides the handheld IPL device on your skin, emitting light pulses.
Most patients don’t describe the treatment to be painful, but mildly uncomfortable. You might feel a mild stinging sensation, but the treatment only takes 20-30 minutes, so it will be over and done before you know it.
Lastly, Sarah removes the gel from your face and applies a moisturizer with SPF before explaining the aftercare.
Quick, easy, and no downtime
You live a busy life. Between work, family, and your social life, you might not feel like you have time to squeeze in appointments.
Luckily, IPL treatments are quick and easy – they can even be done during your lunch break. While you’ll notice an improvement in your skin, most people need a series of four to six treatments spaced about a month apart to get the results they want.
One of the best parts of IPL is that there is no downtime. You can resume work and your everyday life immediately following treatment. We suggest avoiding strenuous physical activity afterward, however, so it is best to work out before your appointment.
