Prickly knees. Dark armpit hair. Peach fuzz on your upper lip. Do you spend more time getting rid of unwanted body hair than you’d like?
You’ve probably tried shaving and/or waxing before. While shaving is easy, it tacks on at least 15 minutes to your normal routine and can cost over $10,000 in a lifetime. And making time for waxing appointments in your busy schedule is stressful — not to mention, waxing is painful.
If you’re looking for a more permanent and cost-effective method, laser hair removal may be for you. At Southern Secrets Medical Spa, we offer laser hair removal to patients in Conroe, Texas and beyond. Read on to learn about this treatment and its after care.
How it works
Laser hair removal is one of the most sought-after treatments in the world. Smooth, touchable skin is so desirable that 457,000 laser hair removal treatments were performed in 2019.
Andrew Martin, MSN, APRN, FNP-C has helped patients eliminate the need for shaving, tweezing, and waxing with laser hair removal. Patients recognize him for his friendly and comfortable persona and exceptional laser results.
Using a handheld laser device, Andrew emits targeted laser energy to unwanted hair follicles. Penetrating through the skin, the light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles, safely destroying the hair.
Treatment can be used to eliminate hair in places like:
- Upper lip
- Bikini line
- Back
- Legs
- Underarms
- Navel
- Neck
- Jawline
Say goodbye to up to 25% of hair in just one session. You’ll notice thinner, sparser hair after the first treatment, but most people need a series of 4-6 treatments.
Does it hurt?
It seems almost every cosmetic treatment has some pain associated with it. But most of our patients agree that laser hair removal isn’t painful, making it a great option for people with low pain tolerance.
People often describe the sensation to be similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin. Patients tolerate the procedure well, with most appointments only taking thirty minutes or less. We finish the treatment by giving you ice so you can immediately soothe the treatment area.
After care: What to expect
If you are interested in laser hair removal, you’re probably wondering what the after care is like. Laser hair removal requires zero downtime, so there’s no need to put your life on hold. We’ve compiled a list of after care tips to help give you the best results.
1. Bumps and redness are normal
You may experience bumps and redness after treatment. No need to panic, this is common and generally goes away in a few hours. Use an ice compress to help minimize discomfort, swelling, and redness.
2. Use a gentle cleanser
We advise you to cleanse your skin following treatment, but be sure to use a gentle cleanser. Do not rub the skin, but rather, pat it dry for the next 48 hours.
3. Avoid makeup, deodorant, and moisturizer for 24 hours
Your skin is sensitive after treatment and may even feel like you have a sunburn. To keep it clean and dry, avoid applying makeup and deodorant for at least one day. If redness or irritation persists, it is best to avoid wearing beauty products until it’s healed.
4. Exfoliate
Not only does exfoliation give you beautiful skin, but it also aids in the laser hair removal process. Dead hair — in the form of stubble — may appear 5-30 days after treatment. Exfoliation can help this hair fall out quickly so you experience results sooner.
5. Stay out of the sun
Sun exposure can affect treatment results and may cause hyperpigmentation. To avoid the chance of getting dark or light spots, always wear an SPF 50 or greater and stay out of the sun for two months following treatment.
