Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Is Low Dose Naltrexone a Good Option for Me? - Julian Healthcare

Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has gained attention in functional medicine for its therapeutic effects in various conditions

Naltrexone (LDN) is traditionally used in higher doses to block opioid receptors, primarily in the treatment of alcohol and opioid dependence. At Southern Secrets Med Spa & Clinic we use LDN in low doses to treat a multitude of conditions.

Potential uses of LDN

  1. Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. LDN is believed to reduce inflammation and modulate immune responses.
  1. Chronic Pain: LDN is often used to manage chronic pain conditions.
  1. Fibromyalgia: LDN is often used in the treatment of fibromyalgia as it decreases inflammation and has a positive effect on endorphins.
  1. Mood Disorders: LDN is often used to manage mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Safety and Side Effects

LDN is generally considered safe when used in low doses, but side effects such as vivid dreams, insomnia, or headaches can occur. It’s important for individuals considering LDN to discuss potential risks with a healthcare provider, especially if they have underlying medical conditions or are taking other medications.

Clinical Guidance

In functional medicine, LDN is often prescribed by practitioners who take a holistic approach to health, focusing on individualized treatment plans and addressing underlying causes of health issues. It may be part of a broader treatment strategy that includes diet, lifestyle changes, and other therapies.
